ON THE WAY HOME
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2007

This is where 95 merges onto the Capital Beltway at Springfield, Virginia. I was SO glad it
was a Sunday morning as you could actually see the road and not just cars ! I used to live
just a few blocks from here (1971-74).

And the Beltway itself wasn't bad at all. So durn many lanes, though!

Getting up into Maryland is always appreciated after passing by Washington, DC.

We both came and returned along 68 rather than the Pennsylvania Turnpike as it's a wonderful
road with much less traffic and no toll. I was driving and stopped at this look-out point at the
edge of what we've called "the big V" for many years. They've sliced this huge section out of
a high ridge called Sideling Mountain that you see for miles and miles away and it just does look
like a "V" with its sharp sides. This is the view from there looking back eastward. A stiff breeze
was blowing and it was actually almost cold, but I loved the feel of it. The sky was glorious all
day, the clouds moving rapidly, changing shapes constantly in the wind, making shadows on the
shades of green across the earth.

This is the top of the V with a cloud rather perfectly pointing the way west toward home.

Back in the car with Carl taking a turn at the wheel, we head into the V which doesn't look
so V-ish here. You need to get it from a distance but I was driving and couldn't take a
picture then.

Just through the V and coming down again. The views are like this all the way across
the panhandle of Maryland, through West Virginia, and up into western Pennsylvania.

I loved these two guys!

This is the giant muffin cup or upsidedown pie plate that is the dome of West Virginia
University's stadium. It nestles so nicely there in the green as you pass Morgantown.

Then at home she was waiting for me. We had a staring contest for a while, but then
she began to stomp at me and I was tired and went inside.
