These were all taken on Monday July 5th when we met Laura, Jeff, Kimberly, Joey, and Isabella at Keystone Lake, just
south of New Alexandria for a 4th of July weekend picnic. From where Carl and I parked, this field of black-eyed susans
was waaaay out of the way for me to walk, but photographic opportunity has always and ever led me on detours and
still does, despite the breaking of feet off legs (well, one foot off one leg).
You see what I mean? How could I NOT walk out of my way for this? Though it was brilliantly sunny
and humid and in the low 90's, which could actually have deterred me more than breakage...but didn't.
The swimming area is just off to the left and Jeff and the kids were there. We ended up having our picnic around
the cove where you see the smooth grass as all the tables over here were in sunshine and I needed shade in which
to eat!!! Yes, yes, yes!
There were two picnic tables together under a tulip poplar and as we ate and talked, I kept noticing from
where I sat that this branch made either an S or a lower case g and so hadda snap a picture of it.
This is looking straight up the tree from where I was sitting
I wandered around that area taking pictures of interesting bark
Having just taken a bark picture, I took this one looking back at our picnic tables. That's Laura standing,
Carl across the table from her, Jeff looking at the lake. The kids were at the playground.
I took this one from my seat at the picnic table as I liked the blue cutout in the cloud, which to
me looked like the classic descending dove.
Laura, Jeff and the kidlets were going to go for a walk but Carl and I decided to rent a boat in a different
area of the lake. I took this one right at the edge as we were going down to the boat as I liked the reeds.
It was so HOT and was high noon that we rented a boat with a blue roof to provide some shade. It was
a white fiberglass boat that you peddled like a bicycle with your legs out in front of you. I took this as we
got further out into the lake and were heading back toward the beach area (waaay down to the left where
you can't see).
From the boat (bit of the blue roof in upper right) looking at where we'd had our picnic. There is a man
by the table near the water and to his right in white is Jeff, then Melanie and Laura, and in the pink is
Isabella. Joey is there somewhere, maybe behind the tree.
Heading back down the lake.
We peddled over to the far shore just to get in the shade for a while.
