MERRY-GO ROUND

JUNE 13, 2008  KENNYWOOD PARK, PITTSBURGH

For me, whenever I ride a carousel, I just have to smile. I love the feeling of being on it, of the look of it,

the sounds of it...so today I tried to capture how it was for two of my grandchildren.

The big, old-fashioned merry-go-round awaits. Joey (8), Isabella (4), and I were to wait here while Laura found Kimberly's schoolmates.

A bit of fortification while checking out possible mounts.

"I wanted the pink one, but a big girl got it, so I settled for purple."

A more manly steed...

Eyeing big brother

"When will it start to...move?"

Sudden movement and an unbalanced grandmother looses her footing...

"Now this is more like it..."

Comfort in the saddle...

Cuteness rides...

Boys must ride like, well, boys...

"Uh, oh! Carousel police! Straighten up!"

Riding reflections...

Staring up at the colors...

Now THIS is how a merry-go-round gets into your soul!

Trick riding

Third ride...finally the pink horse!!! Satisfaction!

"I got the pink one!" On the 4th ride, too!!

Mounted meditation...

Last ride...

During lunch in the pavilion next door...the rains came...crowds gathered under the roof of the merry-go-round

Joey eating French fries, watching a gal standing in the rain

When the rain comes a'pitter patter...

...and the waters flow downhill to the carousel...

...and the thunder booms and the rain gets heavier and heavier...

...until you're almost home, driving through the Felix Forest, and the sun comes out...
