Good evening everyone! We have been invited here today to share with Jared and Shannon one of the most important moments in their lives. In the time they have been together their love and understanding of each other has grown and matured. Now they have decided to live their lives together as husband and wife.

Who gives this woman to be married?    ((We do))

Please be seated

The essence of the marriage relationship is the openness to another person in his or her entirety as lover, companion, and friend. We join our lives together in search of something greater and richer; something that transcends our solitary lives.

Really loving one another with depth and passion is perhaps the greatest treasure we human beings can attain. It adds richness and profound meaning to our lives. Love is one of life’s greatest joys. By simply giving ourselves to each other, honestly and courageously, each partner is infinitely enhanced. In marriage, two lives are intimately shared; and the blending of the two must not diminish either one. Rather, it should enhance the individuality of each partner.

When we give our lives into a loving marriage partnership, we do not abandon ourselves; we do not shed our individuality; for that is what brought us together in the first place.

Remembrances and Acknowledgments

Shannon and Jared have asked that we take a moment to honor the memory of those loved ones who could only be here today in spirit.

Declaration of support

Shannon and Jared would like to acknowledge their parents, whose love, support, and nurturing are such an essential part of who they are today. They thank you for being their first teachers of the power and possibilities of love.

Let us all remember, today and always that there is nothing more important than loving one another.

Deep knowledge of another is not something that can be achieved in a short time.  Real understanding of the other’s feeling can develop fully only with years of intimacy.  This wonderful knowledge of another person grows out of the caring for the other so much that one wants to understand as completely as possible what the other is feeling.  To be understood in this way is priceless, because such understanding and acceptance makes it easier to live with our problems, failures, and worries, as well as our joys and successes.

And, again, while marriage is the intimate sharing of two lives, it can yet enhance the individuality of each partner.  We must give ourselves in love, but we must not give ourselves away.

For marriage is the art of balancing the desires of each within the hearts of both and doing so without uneven sacrifice of either.

A good and balanced relationship is one in which neither person is overpowered or absorbed by the other.  Thus, it is out of the harmony between separateness and union that love is born and reborn again and again.

Shannon and Jared, you are marring because you enjoy each other’s company.  You are marrying because each of you can grow in humanity and in love more fully while being together.  You are marrying because you can be more trusting of life.  Keep this understanding in your marriage fresh and alive in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead.

(HAND CEREMONY)

Please face each other and hold hands, so you may feel the gift that you are to one another.
These hands holding you on your wedding day are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever.
These are the hands that will work alongside yours as together you build your future.
These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.
These are the hands that will hold you when fear and grief wracks your mind.
These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.
These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.
These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.
These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.
And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
